Just done it. I mean I saw the remake of Don. Well, I want to clarify I had nt seen the original Don when it was released. But I did see it on its many telecast on tv. I went in with an open mind, telling myself I was not carrying any baggage with me. But I was wrong. If you have seen tiny bits and pieces of the old version, you can not escape its impact. You can not escape Amitabh .
Each time Shahrukh mouths the all time famous lines it sounds ten times less powerful. Shahrukh has style, Amitabh had strength. Shahrukh has technology, Amitabh had tactics. Shahrukh is good, Amitabh was great. They should have released the first Don simultaneously in the multiplex and am sure it would have been a hit all over again.
What the new Don tries to do is compensate in terms of Gizmos. It is more sleek and fast paced. But like every thing sleek it misses on the soul. Here the good guys lose out just like many a Hollywood flicks of today.
From among the rest of the cast, kareena stands out. She seems like a girl who you would pick against your better judgement. But Helen had a vampish image and Kareena does not. So she did not come across as some one scheming and plotting. Priyanka is better than Krishh. But no one can match the original Junglee billi Zeenat Aman. She was a class act. Arjun Rampal as pran is much better looking but some how not so attractive. Out of the songs the old ones lke yeh mera.., khaike paan, and the worked on main hoon don.. are exiting, Rest are nothing much to write home about.

 

 

Plus Points: It is a copy of a classic. The curiosity value is too strong.

 

Minus Points: It is invariably campared to the origional.
